Rules for Fraction Darts

The goal of the darts game is to pop the balloon in the least number of throws.

When you click on the Start button, the balloon is placed randomly on a vertical number line that starts at 0 and goes to 1.

To throw a dart you need to set the numerator and denominator sliders to numbers that when written as a fraction will equal the approximate location of the balloon on the number line.  For example, if 1/4 is your guess that would be too big. On the other hand 1/8 would be too small. You would need to choose a number in between 1/8 and 1/4

Continue to refine your number until you pop the dart.

Click on start again and repeat. Play 10 rounds. See what your average score is. Compare your score with other students.

Note
The dart has to hit the balloon in the white rectangular area in order to produce a pop. You will be given clues as to whether your guess should be larger or smaller.

Options for games
Drag the Target slider to change the difficulty level. Level 1 is the hardest level (smallest white area).  Level 20 is the easiest. (You will notice that the balloon becomes larger and much easier to hit. )

Clue button
Lets you divide the line into as many parts as you choose in order to help you choose your fraction.  Note below that the clue button was used to divide the line into 10 parts.  A guess of 6/10 or 3/5 would come close to popping the balloon.
