East Hills Middle School: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA

Bethlehem, nicknamed the Christmas City, is a moderately sized town in eastern Pennsylvania with a population of approximately 72,000 residents. The original settlers of Bethlehem were the Lenni Lenape Native Americans; however, Bethlehem was founded by the Moravians on Christmas Eve, 1741. To this day many historic sites still stand including the Sun Inn where George and Martha Washington had visited. Today, Bethlehem is the host of one of the most fabulous feasts of music in the world, Musikfest. This wonderful festival of music, food, and various forms of entertainment has attracted hundreds of thousands of people each year since its onset in 1988. Other festivals and attractions Bethlehem offers include CelticFest, the historic downtown, Moravian College, and Lehigh University.

East Hills Middle School is one of four middle schools in the Bethlehem Area School District. It is the third largest school in our district of 22 schools. Our student population consists of about 1100 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Mrs. Godiska's science classes include 96 sixth grade students overall. Our school is located at 40 degrees, 37 minutes N. and 75 degrees, 22 minutes W. with an elevation of 385 ft. above sea level. East Hills offers extensive extra-curricular and activity programs including such activities as a very active, impressive musical organization, the stock market game, a variety of athletic programs, and student government to name only a few. Science fairs are competitions many of our students enter into with pride. We have competed and placed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, Science Olympiad, and the Lehigh University Science and Engineering Fair. We are taught that our lives are governed by rules whether we are part of family, community, or school. Our school district has developed the Student Code of Conduct to help us understand the importance of these rules.
