Our 4th grade class extended our pond investigation to include a comparison with lake water from the same state. Our science lab teacher, Ms. Mitsakos, supplied us with both pond water and lake water from Pennsylvania. We observed the macroinvertebrates from both water samples and created a Venn diagram to compare and contrast them. We found that there were some similarities such as mosquito larva and snails but the pond water had many more organisms than the lake water. The lake water looked clearer as well.
This was a fun project and we really enjoyed learning about the pond habitat and reading the data submitted by other students all over the country.
