A CIESE Collaborative Project

Holy Angels School, Newark, Delaware

The 5th grade class of Holy Angels School collected several water samples from around the area. Water samples were collected from ponds, streams, and the water reservoir. Although the water reservoir contained no macroinvertebrates in our samples, the other water samples provided us with many findings. The macroinvertebrates are as follows:

  • daphnia

  • ameoba

  • dragon fly larva

  • worms

  • caddis fly nymphs

  • scuds

  • mites

  • snails

The majority of macroinvertebrates were scuds, and daphnia. We also found a lot of algae.

This was an exciting project for the students, and we look forward to reading the results from other schools.
