Lesson 5: System Development

Activities
  1. The Design Team in each class will create 3D models of all subsytems and components needed for the final product. The Design Team will create 3-view drawings to share with the Prototype and Manufacturing teams within the class and also to upload to Collaboration Central for review by Design Team members in other classes. Comments will be incorporated and a final set of models, 3-view drawings, renderings, exploded view drawings and animations will issued.

  2. The Prototyping Team should initiate work by brainstorming and researching ways to develop a prototype. They will start to create working prototypes of all mechanical and electrical components and layouts. Once the initial 3-view drawings are available, they will begin constructing the prototype. Team members will also develop a means of testing and evaluating the prototype. Prototype teams from all classes should share questions, problems, solutions, test results, recommendations and picture of final working prototype in Collaboration Central.

  3. When the initial 3-view drawings are available, the Manufacturing Team will begin to brainstorm how the final product can be mass manufactured in a production run. Team members will start by designing and creating jigs and fixtures. They will also develop a means for testing the jigs and fixtures. Manufacturing teams from all classes should share questions, problems, solutions, test results, and recommendations in Collaboration Central.

  4. Additionally, all team members should brainstorm, design and create press packets, ads and packaging materials.
