Allen Elementary School, Strongsville, Ohio

Group 1

We are a group in Mrs. Sherwood’s class at Allen Elementary School in Ohio.  Our partner school is Van. R. Butler Elementary School in Florida.  Some of things that we have in common are: ants, flying bugs, spiders, trees, mushrooms, grass, and fungus.  Also some of the others things include: weeds, dirt, mud, small rocks, and plastic. Here are some of the interesting things we found in our square: an electric dog collar, cigarette lighter, golf balls, stink bug part of a baseball,    caterpillar, a viper bluegrass, a BB’s, an inchworm, and different kinds of nuts. Here are some interesting things in their square: a frog, a lizard, sand, a mongola tree, a butterfly, and an anthill.

This might be because of the climate.  Their climate is higher, and it is summer for them almost all-year long. Also we think it’s because they live near a beach and we are not.  We looked everywhere but we couldn’t find info on a mongola tree but we think that a mongola tree grows in a warm climate and that might be why they have a mongola tree.  These are the similarities and differences in the two squares.

Group 2

We compared two square meters.  Ours is O.B. Allen Elementary in Ohio and theirs was Van R. Butler Elementary in Florida. Some things we both have are weeds, spiders, fungi and plastic.  We had paper BB’s, worms, and mites.  They had anthills, frogs, dandelions, clovers, and lizards.  We think the things are different because we are in the northern part of the country and they are in southern part of the country.  Also they have much warmer weather then us. Some animals also need colder or warmer weather.  Our squares are the same and different in many ways.

Group 3

We are 5 fourth graders from Mrs. Sherwood’s class in O.B. Allen School in Strongsville, Ohio.  Our partner school is San Jacinto Elementary in San Jacinto, California.  This is our Square of Life Report. Some things that are the same in our squares are ants, ladybugs, trees, food wrappers, and small rocks. Things that they have in their squares are flies, bees, dandelions, clovers, and pencils.  Some interesting things we have in our squares are a dog shock collar, (belonging to one of our students) two golf balls, a used cigarette lighter, a snowy tree cricket, and a stinkbug   We think  the reason why we have different things in our squares is because  it is hotter there.  The animals and plants can survive there in this time of year.  The animals found there cannot survive in the conditions we have here. Obviously, the climates are very different.

Group 4

We are 5 students from Allen Elementary in Strongsville, Ohio. Our partner is Tamura Elementary School in California.  Our similarities in our square are ants, ladybugs, mushrooms, mud, dirt, trees, spiders, and scraps of paper. However, they have a yellow jacket, a brown snail, bushes, metals, and take out boxes while we don’t. We have a purple flower, dried sap on a tree, dead vines, a dog collar, moss, golf balls, BBs, beads, candy wrappers, a cigarette lighter, a green stink bug, a velvet mite, a snowy tree cricket, and a potato bug. Our partner school doesn’t have any of these. We think that we have similarities because we think that the soil’s the same, so there will be some of the same the same things. We also think that we have differences because our climate isn’t the same. For example, California’s climate is warm, while Ohio’s temperature is usually cool. We think is why we have similarities and differences. These are the similarities and differences between their school and our school.

Group 5

We are a group of 5 students in Mrs. Sherwood`s class. Our partner is Lowell School in Washington D.C.  Some things that are the same about both of our schools is that we both found ants, flying bugs, spiders, worms, mushrooms, and weeds. The other similarities are small rocks, mud, plastic, dirt, paper, grass, and a tree. Some differences are that they found a frog and a lizard in their square and we didn’t. Frogs and lizards usually live in warmer areas than here in Strongsville. It is very warm in Washington D.C. We found some vines wrapped around twigs and branches. We are similar and different in many unique ways. Some of our things were the same because Strongsville and Washington D.C.’s climates and weather are mostly the same. Also some stuff was different because Washington D.C. has a little more swampy weather.
