Final Report - June, 2003

St. Michael School, Newark, NY, USA

First of all, we were very surprised to see that of all the schools in the project, we had the lowest average temperature! At latitude 43.0 N we expected May to be warmer than 11 C. So we did not put ourselves in our graphs. Our first graph shows a strong correlation between daylight and latitude. The most northern latitudes had more daylight than those closer to the equator and much more than those below the equator. That helps us to understand why the seasons are reversed. Our graph for temperature shows a nice neat curve from low temps in the southern hemisphere, high near equator, and gradually lower as the latitude increased in the northern hemisphere. We enjoyed the project a lot. But we were disappointed to see so many schools that registered did not submit their final results.
