Final Report - December, 2003

St. John 's Academy (4th Grade), Jamestown, ND, USA

We are the 4th grade from St. John 's Academy in Jamestown, North Dakota in the USA.

We collected the data daily the first week of November during our lunch hour using handheld thermometers and averaging the results. We obtained the daily sun times from the Naval Observatory website.

We graphed the results from 20 locations and found a direct relationship between latitude and length of days. We didn't see a strong relationship between latitude and temperature. We felt that being near the water also affected the temperature.

We had to learn latitude and longitude before we could participate in this project. It helped making learning that more fun! Every class should do this!

We had unusually cold weather that week and were surprised to see that we were colder than Alaska.
