Final Report - December, 2003

West Elementary (4th Grade), MO, USA

We are 23 4th-graders from West Elementary of the Central School System in Missouri, USA. We participated in this project during Math and Science times.

We constructed our own data tables and recorded the data (big word for information!) each day during the project. We also practiced reading a thermometer, discussed controlling variables (put those thermometers in the sun!), averaging, and using the Internet to find time of sunrise and sunset. We figured elapsed time and how to locate places on a map using latitude and longitude.

We found out that it depends on how close you are to the equator. The closer you are, the warmer you are.

The farther you are, the cooler you are. That's how latitude affects temperature.

We found that the farther north you are, the less daylight you have right now.
The northern hemisphere is in winter and the southern hemisphere is in summer. In 6 months, it'll switch.

Global Temperature Sun rocks!
