Final Report - June, 2004

St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School, Western Australia

We are the Year Five Challenge students from St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School in Western Australia.

During our Project time, 10-14 May 2004, we took the temperature from a hand held digital thermometer at approximately 12.30pm each day.

Using the US Naval Observatory website, we determined the Sunrise and Sunset times and then we calculated the number of minutes of sunlight per day. At the end of the week, we averaged the temperature and minutes of sunlight and submitted our data.

We graphed the results from 10 different locations and found that there was a relationship between latitude and the number of sunlight minutes likewise we also found a relationship between the temperature and the latitude. We noticed more sunlight and higher temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere than the Southern Hemisphere. We wondered if this was the same all year round.

We had a lot of fun participating in this project.
