Final Report - December, 2004

Our Lady of Providence Regional School, Central Islip, NY, USA

Hello! This is the Final Project Report from Earth Science classes, 6-1 and 6-2, at Our Lady of Providence Regional School, Central Islip, New York, U.S.A. Wow! What a great project! How exciting to be part of this global community and to learn that we averaged 604 minutes of daylight for that week. We recorded the temperature under the beautiful oak tree in front of our school. We traveled the world...on a graph! We analyzed that latitude directly determines temperatures of schools in countries south of or at the equator, to be warmer with more minutes of sunlight per day. Schools, in countries north of the equator, like us, have lower temperatures - a cooler climate – with less minutes of sunlight per day. Naturally, when the earth is tilted toward the sun, specific locations are definitely hotter than others! It’s close to winter here, so we can infer that the earth is tilted away from the sun! The graphs support our findings. Thanks for this opportunity and best wishes to all!
