How to Subscribe/Unsubscribe to the Alliance+ Listservs

A listserv is a type of automated mailing list for people who share a common interest in a designated subject. In the Alliance+ Project we maintain two primary listservs. One is for "participants" and the other is for "trainers".  If you are engaged in training (e.g. Mentor Teachers) for the project you are required to subscribed to the Alliance Trainer's listserv.  This listserv will keep you updated on new training issues and alert you to any technical problems that might interfere with your training.  The Alliance Participants listserv is for educators who have participated in training but who are not engaged in train others (e.g. Mentee Teachers).  It will keep you posted on new curriculum materials and other important project information.  Below is basic information on how to subscribe to these two listservs.  If you have any questions please contact Josh Baron at jbaron@stevens-tech.edu

Instructions for Subscribing to the Alliance+ Project Listservs

  1. Open up your email program to compose a new email message.

  2. Deactivate your automatic signature file if you have one (if you didnít set one up initially, then you donít have one.)

  3. Address the message to: majordomo@list.k12science.org

  4. Leave the subject line empty.

  5. On the first line of the message body write only the words shown below in bold. Nothing else may be written on the message page. (Note: The symbol between "alliance" and "trainers" is an UNDERSCORE "_")

If you want to subscribe to the "trainers" listserv use the following:
 
subscribe alliance_trainers
end
If you want to subscribe to the "participants" listserv use the following:
 
subscribe alliance_participants
end

Send the message and in a few minutes you will receive confirmation that you have been subscribed as well as a welcome message. Save this confirmation email because this (like many listserv confirmation notices) will include the directions for how to unsubscribe at a later date.

Instructions for Posting a Message to the Alliance+ Project Listserv

You can post messages to the Alliance+ Trainers Listserv by sending an email addressed to:

If you want to subscribe to the "trainers" listserv use the following:

alliance_trainers@list.k12science.org

If you want to subscribe to the "participants" listserv use the following:

alliance_participants@list.k12science.org

Notes: Remember that everyone who subscribes to this listserv will receive your message. From time to time you will see a message posted to the listserv to which you want to reply. If you simply use your "reply" function in your email system you will be replying back to the ENTIRE listserv and not just back to the person who originally posted the first message.  This can result in a large amount of unwanted messages being posted to the listserv and may result in you posting comments which were not intended for the entire listserv. Try to avoid this mistake whenever possible.

Instructions for Unsubscribe from the Alliance+ Project Listservs

  1. Address an email message to: majordomo@list.k12science.org

* Important Note: All trainers are required to remain on the "trainers" listserv while they are members of the project.

Send your message and you will receive confirmation that you are unsubscribed.
