What I do:
I study a diverse set of related subjects: wireless communications, security, electronics hardware and software prototyping. Wireless because I have been interested in the subject area since I became a ham radio operator at age 12 and have always been fascinated by the idea of communicating over great distances; security, because as we become more dependent on communications (especially wireless) there are greater risks of losing information; and hardware/software prototyping since I find that you learn the most about a topic when you actually try to build something.
What I like most about my job:
When I can come to work and say to myself: "They actually PAY me to do this?!" I enjoy looking at new problems and figuring out how to attack them. Knowing that the technology I am working on will be widely used in the future and will solve problems that customers and businesses are just starting to think about today is especially fun. Working with students who are tackling their own design problems for the first time and helping them learn how to solve problems is particularly satisfying.
