Question: Miguel went on the plane ride the whole day. He went on the ride from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Each ride is 4 minutes long with a 1 minute break. The plane goes around 30 feet per second. How many miles did he travel that day?

Answer: Miguel was on the ride for 12 hours. First I turned 12 hours into minutes, 12 hours is 720 minutes. The ride is 4 minutes with a minute break, so it adds up to 5 minutes. Once you have that, you must divide 720 minutes by 5 minutes per ride. This would equal 144 rides. So Miguel got on the ride 144 times in 720 minutes.

You need to multiply 4 minutes times 60 seconds. That should equal 240 seconds in total, then multiply it by 30 because its 30 feet per a second. That should equal 7200 feet per a ride.

Now that you have that amount in feet you need to change it into miles. There are 5280 feet in a mile, so divide 7200 feet divided by 5280 feet. Miguel traveled 1.3 miles in 4 minutes. He went on the plane ride for 144 times so to get the total you need to multiply 144 rides times 1.3 miles. In total Miguel traveled 187.2 miles in 12 hours. Miguel traveled about 187 miles in a day.
