There is a bird that is on top rotor of the K-NEX model helicopter .The rotor spins 5 times per second. If the bird flies of the rotor how far will it travel in 10 minutes?

We measured the top rotor at 1 foot 5 inches (17inches). The rotor spins in a circle so to find the answer we would have to find the circumference and the radius. We found out that the circumference is 53.38 inches which we rounded to 53. Then we found out that the radius is 8.5 inches (8 ½ inches).

We found out that there are 600 seconds in 10 minutes. We multiplied 60 seconds to the 10 minutes. Then we multiplied the 600 seconds by 5 times the rotor spins and got 3,000 spins. After that we then multiplied the 3,000 by 53 inches per spin. This would then equal 159,000 inches. This would equal to 13,250 feet (2 ½ miles).

We converted 159,000 to 13,250 feet by dividing 12 inches per foot into 159,000 inches. We then got 13,250 feet. We then divided 13,250 by 5280 feet cause this is equal to 1 mile. Then we got 2.5 miles which equals 2 ½ miles.
