Drinking in Coke-a-Cola Commercials in Order to Learn About Reading Between the Lines


Project Overview

Advertising is something the American people cannot escape.  It is everywhere: televisions, newspapers, billboards, radio, etc.  In this capitalist, commercial saturated society, it is sometimes hard to discern which product is best for the consumer.  People who can make inferences about products by viewing or listening to commercials are the ones who are able to make educated decisions in product choice.

In this RWLO, students will view past Coke-a-Cola commercials to make inferences based on what they see and hear.  In addition to viewing the commercials as individuals, students will compare and contrast commercials to make further inferences about Coke-a-Cola and its product.

This RWLO is aimed at developmental students at the secondary and post-secondary levels.
