Socio-Economic Issues to Consider in the Siting of New Municipal Solid Waste Landfills

  1. Population: Locate populated areas within the political boundary.  Consider siting away from populated areas.

  2. Existing Roadways: Locate roads sufficient in size to accommodate new traffic that results.

  3. Property Valuations: Determine existing property values.  Consider impacts to both high value properties and low value properties.

  4. Zoning: View existing zoning to determine compatible use or issues related to rezoning.

  5. Schools, Parks, and Other Places Frequented by Children: Consider the presence or absence of such facilities

  6. Per-Capita Income: Evaluate the income of area residents.  Consider whether a new landfill will impact their income.
