Assessment

The student's worksheet should be quite straightforward to grade.  The suggested points assigned for each of the completed sections is weighted more heavily for sections requiring some interpretation of the published material, whereas, the sections that just ask for insertions of information listed directly in the update are assigned relatively few points.  If the section is not attempted, no points should be awarded.

Date of notice or publication on the FDA website  -- 2 points if completed

Product involved -- 2 points each for the generic and trade names

Division within the FDA website  -- 2 points if completed

Company producing drug and location -- 2 points each if completed

Audience -- 2 points if completed

General use of product -- 3 points as long as the student gives the general drug classification or in what capacity the product is utilized

Nature of posting -- 10 points as long as the student's explanation of the reason for the update can stand on its own merit.  Only 5 points should be awarded if the student does not state the information in their own words. A maximum of 7 points should be awarded if the student does not expand upon the rudimentary information given within the FDA release.

Studies or events prompting update -- 10 points for the comprehensive analysis by the student.  Only 5 points should be awarded if the student does not state the information in their own words.  A maximum of 7 points should be awarded if the student does not expand upon the rudimentary information given in the FDA release.

Additional links with summaries -- 15 points for complete description of each of the listings.  Since the hard copy of the links referred to in the FDA announcement is not required, the student analysis requires more effort.  Only 5 points should be awarded if not all the links are given and/or incomplete data concerning the releases for the public are given.
