Prerequisites: This activity is designed for students with
basic computer skills and at least a 12th grade reading level.

H5N1 influenza epidemic. Students will write a short summary of the
current status of the epidemic.

Organization (WHO) Interactive Mapping website. Influenza infection
data are reported by the week. Students will document influenza
infection in ten countries from around the world for each season of
the year on the student worksheet. Students will analyze global
patterns on influenza infection and formulate conclusions about the
timing and spread of the avian H5N1 influenza.

information about epidemics and pandemics and state what criteria the
avian H5N1 influenza must meet to be considered a pandemic.
