The Emerging Avian H5N1 Influenza

      This RWLO could fit into a unit on epidemiology, immunology, or vaccination. With an emphasis on disease prevention, allied health career students could develop teaching projects and community programs, interview health leaders in the area, participate in hospital influenza policy committee meetings, or present the information at a professional meeting as a “call to action”.

      In the event that Internet access is not available, the following modifications to the RWLO could be made:

      The instructor should be prepared to present information about the current status of the avian H5N1 influenza. The instructor should print out the maps from the World Health Organization website for each time period. Furthermore, phone numbers for local health departments could be obtained by the instructor for distribution to the class.
