About the Library
The Real World Learning Objects (RWLO) Resource Library contains Real World Learning Objects (RWLOs), concise core instructional internet-based activities focused on discrete topics in higher education mathematics, science, educational technology, and language arts can easily be used in similar courses at other institutions to enhance learning and integrate technology in a meaningful way.

Developed for the PT3 Community College Pathways to Improved Teacher Preparation through Technology Project (Pathways) with funding from the U.S. Department of Education, these RWLOs promote “unique and compelling” uses of the Internet: access to real time data, telecollaboration, primary sources, or web publishing. These applications engage students in authentic activities and Internet-based instructional resources that are uniquely possible only through the use of the Internet and provide compelling real world learning experiences .

RWLOs are intended to facilitate the engagement of learners in technology-rich, constructivist, inquiry-based experiences. By incorporating such materials into their courses, community college faculty who teach preservice teachers will be modeling effective technology-based instruction in order to improve student engagement and achievement in core course.

As part of the Pathways project, community college faculty will participate in the Savvy Cyber Professor program, a curriculum and technology based professional program that will instruct participants how to develop these Internet-based RWLOs and effectively integrate them into the preservice teacher curriculum. Once completed, the learning object will be peer reviewed and then made available in the RWLO library for others to use. At the completion of the project it is projected that the library will contain over 200 RWLOs , will continue to grow thereafter, and will constitute a unique and highly valuable resource for community college faculty throughout the country.

These Real World Learning Objects were developed for the PT3 Pathways Project for pre-service teachers with funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
