  The concept behind Ask-an-Expert projects is nothing new to education.  Most teachers at one time or another have invited an expert into their classroom to talk with their students, but it takes time to locate an expert willing to come to your class.  The Internet provides you and your students access to a much broader community than you’ve ever experienced before. 

To begin with, let's look at the Ask the Experts site hosted by Scientific American.  This site is organized by categories and staffed by scientists who donate their time.
