Community Building
EOFNJ is building a community of educators, parents, policymakers, students, and practicing engineers to promote the adoption and integration of engineering curricula in schools throughout New Jersey. Parents and teachers may help to bring engineering curricula to your local school system. Practicing engineers and engineering researchers may host teachers and students at your workplace or visit a school. Policymakers may visit school implementing engineering in the classroom to better understand the benefits and challenges. We invite you to be a part of our growing community.

In addition to professional development, we are connecting engineering faculty, researchers, and professionals with schools to promote engineering career awareness, participation in science and engineering fairs, and mentoring programs.

Several recent landmark studies and publications have demonstrated the link between a robust and qualified engineering and technology workforce and the health and growth of the U.S. economy. Creating new pathways to engage students in technical disciplines, from an early age, is a critical aspect of developing the technological workforce of the future. Through this initiative, we aim to influence the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards to ensure that all students experience engineering and technology design and problem-solving as a regular and integral part of the curriculum. Through presentations, public hearings, case studies, demonstration sites, and other venues, we aim to promote engineering for all students, K-12.

Corporate, foundation, and other public and private partners are needed to sustain and expand this effort. We seek the participation of individuals and organizations to help us equip educators to effectively introduce engineering in the K-12 curriculum; to develop curricula that demonstrate the exciting and important work that engineers do; and to promote technological literacy and technical careers.
